Can I work after my opt expires and while waiting for H1B decision

Hi,
am currently on STEM Extension  OPT and it is going to expire on 10/22/2018. I applied for H1B this year and status is showing as ‘Case was received’. Can I work after 10/22/2018 while waiting for H1B decision.
